Speakers\/Authors:MarySue Williams, OTR\/L and Sherry Shellenberger, OTR\/L<\/p>\n

MarySue and Sherry have lectured extensively across the country and internationally since 1991. They have developed two online courses and published numerous products including books, songs, and games related to self-regulation. Their work has been included in occupational therapy textbooks and the program is used in over 85 countries. MarySue and Sherry have developed practical ways to teach people of all ages how to incorporate sensory supports and self-regulation concepts into everyday living. In 2003, they received the American Occupational Therapy Association\u2019s Recognition of Achievement Award for \u201cExcellence in Intervention Development and Dissemination\u201d for their outstanding contributions.<\/p>\n

Target Audience:This workshop is intended for a variety of professionals, including OTs, COTAs, PTs, PTAs, SLPs, teachers, paraprofessionals, social workers, counselors, and parents. All who participate will glean new information whether or not they are familiar with the Alert Program\u00ae concepts.<\/p>\n

Educational Level:The Alert Program\u00ae Online Course is appropriate for Introductory Education Level. <\/p>\n

Learning Objectives\/Outcomes:Participants will be able to:1) Describe how to adapt the Alert Program\u00ae for use in a school, home, therapy, or community setting with an individual or group of individuals (any age from birth to elder care).<\/p>\n

2) Interpret their own sensorimotor preferences thereby improving the ability to facilitate self-regulation in others (children or adult clients).<\/p>\n

3) List new therapeutic\/educational activities to support self-regulation (related to clients’ unique occupations) appropriate for use in school, home, therapy, or community settings.<\/p>\n

4) Identify novel methods for sharing sensory integration and Alert Program\u00ae basic concepts with others.<\/p>\n

Course Description and Time-Ordered Agenda:This course is designed so that the participant can begin or continue to implement the Alert Program\u00ae in their setting. Video modules, required text, and additional resources (links to helpful articles, websites, etc.) will cover the following information:<\/p>\n

NOTE: The numbers above reflect actual video minutes for a total of 12.5 hours. Learners, also earn, 5.0 hours for reading the required text throughout the course and 2.5 hours for use of the additional resources contained in the course. Total of 20.0 contact hours (2.0 AOTA CEUs and 25 NBCOT PDUs). Learners have a three-month access period within which to complete the course and post-test.<\/p>\n

Instructional Methods:This course includes the authors  filmed as they present the content. These video streaming modules feature lecture and slides throughout the course. This online course requires access to high-speed internet connections to be able to view content and complete the post-test. The required textbook, \u201cHow Does Your Engine Run?\u201d\u00ae A Leader\u2019s Guide to the Alert Program\u00ae for Self-Regulation (2nd Edition, 2025), handout packet (with Module Tracking Checklist), and sensory strategies (Bag of Brain Breaks) will be mailed to participants for their use. Instructions and materials for hands-on activities, additional readings and resource weblinks are interspersed appropriately throughout the course.<\/p>\n

Cancellation Policies for Learner:This online course is non-refundable. Exception: We will make every effort to help you complete your online course. In the unlikely event that our friendly and knowledgeable tech support team for some unforeseen reason cannot help you access the online course, then participants will be offered alternative dates to retake the course or participants can choose to receive a full refund minus $50 for the cost of the Leader\u2019s Guide book, handout packet, and materials (if mailed to you, prior to the start of the Online Course).<\/p>\n
